Many reports show that states are upping their quotas for resettling (Syrian) refugees:
- USA:
10,000 70,00085,000 / 100,000 - Canada: up to 50,000 by the end of 2016;
25,000 in 2015(*just not single men – but maybe them, too. here’s how.)10,000 / 4 years+ Quebec: 3,650 + private sponsorship. 01.03.2016: Canada says it has met its goal of resettling 25,000 Syrian refugees; 31.03.2016: Canada to accept additional 10,000 Syrian refugees - Australia: 12,000
- UK: 20,000 / 4 years (on VPRS); 04.12.15 update: no increase post vote to use airstrikes in Syria
- Norway: (18.09.15 calls for 100,000+)
- Venezuela: 20,000
- Chile: 100 families
- Brazil: *upping humanitarian visa program
Contrast with UNHCR’s 09.09.15 confirmed pledges (persons) received since 2013 for the resettlement and other forms of admissions for Syrian refugees.
A. Trevor Thrall makes the argument over in The Atlantic that resettlement is a “cheaper, and morally superior, alternative to Western military action in Syria.”
